The Soundlovers (Happy Halloween!)

I tried to continue with my personal Spooktober drawings, but it's become clear I won't be able to draw everything I've planned. This will have to be my Halloween post, so - Happy Halloween! 🎃

This drawing is inspired by a 90's music video "Run Away" (1996) performed by a Eurodance project/band The Soundlovers. The video itself is pretty creepy (a woman kills men and she and her helper perform some kind of taxidermy on them) and my first intention was to draw a scary, almost gory drawing, but I decided to redraw it and here's the more "toned-down" version. I just wasn't sure if the original drawing would be OK for social media such as Instagram.

As for the Soundlovers, it was a music project that consisted of three Italian producers: DJ Molella, Phil Jay, Roberto Santini, and two singers : Nathalie Aarts and German Leguizamon. But the performer I drew is actually another band member, Kim Gallina, who appeared in their two first videos, "Run Away" and "People", but sadly died in 1999. Their other hits were "Another day", "Surrender", "Mirando el mar" and "Walking" and they still bring me back in time whenever I hear them. 🎵

Squid Game

I know Squid Game isn't a horror show, but it can be scary, shocking and gory at times, plus there are so many costumes that can be cosplayed or turned into Halloween costumes, so I put it on my Spooktober list and drew some kind of fanart.

One of my biggest phobias is ranidaphobia - the fear of frogs (or more precisely toads), so what would happen if during the red light/green light game one of them hopped in front of me while I'm supposed to be standing still? You guess it easily - it would definitely be game over for me as I would start to panic, shake, scream and try to run away in horror. 😔

I can't explain the reason for this phobia. I'm OK with other amphibians, even reptiles or spiders, but when it comes to toads, my soul is sooo ready to leave my body. To conclude, for me no game from the show would be scarier than a sudden appearance of a simple small harmless frog. 😱 Do you have similar irrational fears?

Black Spot (Zone Blanche)

As this is considered to be the spookiest month, I decided to work on some Halloween-esque drawings. 🎃 I already have a few (hopefully) interesting ideas.

The first drawing is about the French-Belgian supernatural TV show Black Spot (Zone Blanche) where three detectives - Lauréne, Teddy Bear and Franck - investigate mysterious cases in a small town of Villefranche. The town is surrounded by a dark forest, so if you're into mysteries, horror and thriller, this show might be for you.

And yes, there is a cryptic creature, a cute guinea pig (Teddy Bear's pet) and some ominous crows, so I included them in my drawing too. 😉

Cloud 9 Superstore

Superstore is one of those TV shows that sneaked up on me and blew my mind. It may seem like just a silly comedy show about a group of workers at a Cloud 9 Superstore (something like Target), but the characters and storylines were so incredible (and actually funny!) that I had to binge watch all 6 seasons.

I chose two characters for my drawing, America Ferrera as Amy and Ben Feldman as Jonah with their Rachel/Ross "will they/won't they" chemistry, although the whole cast is absolutely amazing (even if their characters tend to be annoying). And even though they created a kind of world I'd love to live in from the very first episode, the last season was something out of this world. 🤯

I know some TV shows dealt with the Covid-19 situation in their storylines (SWAT, NCIS, The Good Doctor...), but the sixth season of Superstore made it feel real and still somehow entertaining. They covered many aspects of 2019/2020 in such a familiar way, from wearing masks in the store, quarantine and toilet paper shortage to online shopping and the delivery service - everything we've actually gone through in our ordinary lives. Plus their "Superstore" humour, already established in previous seasons. 🤣

There is so much more to this show (it deals with important issues such as human rights, racism, immigration etc.) and maybe it won't leave the same effect on everyone, but it quickly landed among my top 5 favourite TV shows ever. 😍

Storm Area 51 (2021)

I'm back on track and trying to finish some drawings I had planned before but unfortunately missed the dates. This one's about the second anniversary of Storm Area 51, a silly Facebook event about raiding Area 51 and freeing aliens, a kind of a harmless hoax that turned into something completely different, like parties and music festivals in the desert.

One of the results was a trend among artists to draw themselves freeing the aliens that were being kept there and this is my new version of that art challenge. First time I "rescued" an "original" alien (common little green aliens 👽), but this time I'm helping a xenomorph and a facehugger escape. I'm so glad I got to finish this, even if it's a bit too late, because this scene was on my mind for a very long time and I'm happy it didn't go to waste. Hope you like it too. 👽👍

I've been away for some time (and for a good reason), but now I'm hopefully back. Here's a seemingly cute but a little bit cryptic drawing. It's actually inspired by a word play that can describe my current situation (which is not so good, but I tried to cheer myself up). The pun is stretched sooo far that it's impossible to figure out how my brain was working while I was drawing this. 🤪
