ZOOccupations: Baker / Octopus

This is my third illustration for my #zooccupations project. The Random Generator in Jazza's Arty Games application by @drawwithjazza (with 100 animals and 60 jobs I put in the generator) this time chose "OCTOPUS" and "BAKER". As usual, the challenge is to draw it traditionally, using watercolour pencils, a black liner and a white ink pen for some details.

Unfortunately, I used a different type of paper than before and it seems that this one doesn't handle too much water so well, so blending some parts became a little bit tricky. The other thing is my new 0.2 fineliner, which is still too thick for my taste, but I had problems with 0.1 during finelining the second illustration, so I had to change it and I'm not very happy about it. And there's also the thing about eyes. I don't have a distinctive style and I wasn't sure how this project would progress, but I guess they'll all have lines for eyebrows and mouths and little black ovals with two white dots for eyes in my future illustrations.

ZOOccupations: Tattooist / Platypus

I must admit the second challenge for my Zooccupations project was a little bit tricky. The Random Generator in Jazza's Arty Games application by @josiahbrooks (or @drawwithjazza) chose "platypus" and "tattoo artist". It was me who put 100 animals and 60 jobs in that generator, so I shouldn't complain, right? But somehow I couldn't find the best reference for the tatooist and although I have three tattoos myself, I wasn't sure about recognizable details and the equipment they use. So, there's something resembling a tattoo kit, ink containers, some kind of a tattoo stool, blue latex gloves and some scarves or bandanas or whatever. I even put two examples of tattoos on the "wall" behind the platypus. I hope there are enough clues to guess his occupation.

Again, the assignment was to use watercolour pencils and black liners for lineart and I also used a white ink pen for some details. Now that it's finished, I guess I'm ready for the next random surprise. 😉

Captain Marvel

Here's my version of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. I used some elements from the MCU, some from the comics and also added some of my favourite features (it's mostly that wavy cloth thingy - I know, even in the comics it's not that long, but I find it very cool).

I must admit, last week was very stressful for me. I live for superhero stuff and never miss Marvel's and DC's movies, but the witch-hunt that preceded Captain Marvel's premiere was very brutal, depressing and uncomfortable and although I was hyped to see the movie, it shifted my attention to all that unnecessary negativity. I don't know why I constantly give in to reading comments and spoilers, I really have to find way to ignore them and stick to my own convictions.

As usual, all that stress was unnecessary in the end. It turned out to be pretty good and I had fun I usually have while watching similar superhero movies. I know it's mostly the same formula all over again, but it's exciting to see how this giant MCU story keeps developing even with such installments that weren't planned from the beginning. So, let's put torches, pitchforks and butthurt politics aside and watch this movie for what it's supposed to be - just another entertaining movie. 😉👍

Spider-Gwen

I've finally seen Into the Spider-Verse, which is a very good excuse for me to continue drawing Spider-Persons. 😀 This time it's Spider-Gwen, and although I've drawn her twice so far while I was testing watercolour pencils, this time I wanted to draw a complete digital illustration. Initially I had a more dynamic pose in mind, but then I used one of my poseable art figures.

My Spidersona

Finally it's time for my Spidersona! Spider-Man has always been one of my most favourite superheroes and this challenge is a great way to imagine myself in his shoes. I don't have a catchy superhero name, but I tried to present some things and features that define me... to some extent, at least.

One of my most favourite pieces of clothing has for years been my olive green/orange hoodie, so I used these colours for my "spidersuit". I also wear a lot of black and dark grey. I hate cramming things into my pockets, so I usually wear some kind of a bag. In this illustration it opened by accident and some things that I like or usually carry fell out: my glasses, mobile phone, a bottle of cola, a chocolate bar, pills and vitamins, a pack of tissues, a pen etc. And there's also a matching baseball hat, I believe I have quite a collection and I rarely leave my flat without one of them.

I'm pretty tall and heavy, so the spider silk can barely support my weight (you can see it snapping in the middle) and I live in Osijek, which is the 4th largest city in Croatia, but according to European or American standards still a pretty small town with a few blocks of 12-storey buildings, so I mostly have to use numerous power lines to move around.

Sooo... It's your friendly neighborhood... Spider-Esseker? No? Well, I tried. 😁

P.S. Essek = Osijek 😉

Art vs. Artist 2019

Has it already been a year since the last "Art vs. Artist" challenge? I guess time does fly when you're having fun. Anyway, I'm just glad I have the opportunity to show more digital artwork than last year.

Miles Morales

Believe it or not, I still haven't seen Into the Spider-verse! 😱 Yep, guilty as charged. 😔 To be honest, I don't even know if there was a subbed version in our cinemas, because in my country animated movies are mostly dubbed and I'd like to experience the original version. I believe there are still some early projections of dubbed versions for small children at 10 a.m. or something like that, but, as I said, meh. 🙄

Anyway, it didn't stop me from drawing Miles in one of his famous outfits. I wanted a dynamic illustration with a challenging perspective, so I used unusual references of some anime poses, as well as my own (don't ask 😁). The new thing that I hadn't used before is the thick outline around the character, which supposedly makes the whole illustration kind of pop up and I like how it turned out. Maybe I'll use it more often, we'll see.
