AI Attack

It may be too late for Throwback Thursday or Flashback Friday, but here are two of my drawings mixed into one to make my point about using AI.

One of many things I hate about AI is that it seems to be normally included into more and more programs and apps, without asking us if we really want it. 😡

I'm trying so hard to avoid it and luckily it's mostly just one of the suggested options (at least for now), but it's inevitably present, which in my case makes it difficult to rant against and still use apps that are AI-infected, such as CapCut. 🤷‍♂️

In this drawing I combined two of my characters from my Grdiverse project. Davorachnid is one of the good guys, but AI Bot is trying to recreate or clone him, making a digital version that could fight and eventually replace him. I see it as my creative idea to represent my issues with AI and what troubles it may bring one day.

Spider-Man BND

Hard to believe, but as someone who's been obsessed with Spider-Man my whole life, I actually drew Peter Parker only once, and that was in 2017, when Homecoming came out. Until now there have been only Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and my OC Spidersona Davorachnid in my digital gallery. Now it's time to change that for Brand New Day.

I still haven't seen the new movie, but it's definitely going to happen. Hopefully soon, before I inevitably stumble upon some spoilers. The story is supposed to go back to the character's comic book roots, away from the Avengers, with New York as a background, original suit etc. I can't wait!

Medusa Zara

7 Deadly Sins

I got the idea for this drawing about three years ago, while I was watching The Seven Deadly Sins, a fantasy anime about a group of legendary knights who protected the fictional Kingdom of Liones. They were each named after a biblical sin, although I didn'treally get the symbolism behind that. 🤔

It was interesting, but I wouldn't put it in my top 5 favourite anime. So, back then I made a sketch of all seven knights plus the princess and their animal companion and I haven't touched it until now. I'm not sure why now, I guess I got tired of looking at that file in my "TO DO" folder.

The original name is Nanatsu no Taizai and it was and is still very popular among fans. It's silly, with unusual characters (as you can see), a lot of questionable fan service and familiar but still problematic relationships and inappropriate behaviour. I mean, I guess I recommend it, although I don't think I'll watch it again. If you read the manga or watched the anime, is there anything interesting or important you'd like to share, maybe something significant or more specific I should've mentioned?

Neil the Seal

He's back! Once again Neil the Seal is spending his moulting days (shedding old skin and fur) in beachside towns in Tasmania, causing commotion and filling the social media feeds with his shenanigans. 🦭

He's practically still a "baby", just a 5-year-old elephant seal weighing a tonne but still growing. Apparently, he's lonely because of lack of his peers at the beach, so the nearby towns with their infrastructure became his playground.

He's all over my feed too, so I decided to dedicate my next drawing to him. As he's treated with caution and respect, I imagined him as a king sitting on a "Game of Thrones" style throne made of everything he breaks on his way, especially traffic signs, poles and traffic cones.

But as entertaining as it is now, there's also a reason for concern. He's a "teenager" and expected to grow and no one knows what will happen once he's 4 tonnes and doing the things he does. They even tried to relocate him, but he eventually came back to the beach where he was born and continued with his usual activities. I hope they'll find some solution before they turn to sad alternatives that have happened before with wild animals in similar situations. 😞

And when it comes to this drawing, I also hope you'll appreciate my idea and creativity in this case.

Pokémon Summer 2026

It's time for another Pokémon Summer drawing; my OCs Umberto and Espina, with their Umbreon and Espeon are back!

This time I wanted to try out a challenging perspective and it took me too much time to figure things out. I found inspiration in one of Instagram stories posted by vloggers Scotty Sire and Jac Anderson, but even with their pose it was very difficult to finish this drawing. Fortunately, this is digital art, so I got to move and tweak lines a million times before I managed to get this final pose. I just hope it follows at least some rules of foreshortening. Please be gentle if you decide to criticise it.

As for drawing Umbreon and Espeon, I often look for dog references, but then draw them like they're cats. 😄 Anyway, it's been fun trying to draw the way I "saw" the final version in my head, almost quitting several times during the process and eventually returning to finish the damn drawing.

For the last day of June (and as my only #ToonJune post this year) I chose one of my favourite quotes from the 1952 episode "Water, Water Every Hare", a funny interaction between Bugs Bunny and Dr. Frankenbeans, who was making a giant robot and needed a brain to bring him to life.

Kaijunicorn (TBT) 2026

For this week's "Throwback Thursday" I decided to merge two monthly art challenges, Kaijune (drawing monsters during June) and Junicorn (drawing unicorns during June), so I reposted my 2023 drawing of a creature that falls into both categories. Yes, I should've drawn a new pose or version of Dinocorn (as I named it), but unfortunately this is all I can post at the moment.

World Cup 2026 (TBT)

Mando & Grogu

Instead of drawing something new for the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu in the cinemas, I decided to use this Throwback Thursday to repost my old drawing from 2019. I mean, the idea was already brilliant: Mando as a babysitter pushing a stroller that looks like the Millennium Falcon with AT-AT "legs", plus toys such as a C-3PO plushie and a R2-D2 baby rattle... perfection! 👌 If only it brought more attention to my work, but ugh, stupid algorithm, you know how it goes... 😮‍💨

MerMay 2026

I decided long ago I wouldn't be able to draw all 31 prompts for the MerMay drawing challenge, so I usually choose only one for each year. Thanks to @mermay_official, it's one of the most creative challenges of the year. 🧜‍♀️

This time it happens to be for the 28th day and the prompt is "ICON", which helped me a lot, because I desperately needed an inspiration. I found it in an 90's Eurodance icon, Amber and her hit song "This Is Your Night". The visuals from the video were amazing, somehow I knew I had to do something with the scene where she's singing in water, surrounded by lilly pads and wearing some kind of pearl chain mail headpiece. The pose itself is a combination of ideas from @theposearchives.

It also happens that this dance music icon celebrates the 30th anniversary of her album and the title song "This Is Your Night". It became a Top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a Number 1 hit on the dance chart and it also earned a cult status because of appearance in the movie "Night at the Roxbury". Currently she's releasing the the 30th Anniversary Edition vinyl of the album, including new remixes.

I bet they'll be great, but as it usually goes with 90's music, I'm staying true to the original song, which is on my forever list so I usually listen to it a few times a week.

SFeraKon 2026

And again I spent my birthday weekend at SFeraKon, a popular Croatian sci-fi and fantasy convention! Please visit @sferakon to see what it's all about. 😍

Just like last year, I brought my tablet with me and used some free time to draw my avatar again in front of the traditional SFeraKon banner. First I had to find a pose (I kind of recycled parts of another pose from a few months ago) and then take a photo of the banner from a specific angle. And of course, I had to wait for the right moment when it wasn't too crowded. 😄

I drew my first SFerakon related illustration in 2018, and then again in 2022 and 2023, and then last year I decided to make it a tradition, a personal art challenge. I guess the theme is exploring unusual perspectives and blending the finished digital drawing with real photos. Hope you like it!

BTW, this was my Marvel inspired outfit for Friday. Nothing special, a T-shirt with Marvel logo and a hat with Avengers logo. But I also wore badges with my drawings on them and QR codes for my galleries, trying to promote my art, which wasn't very successful, if at all! 😭 But one of the volunteers made my day by asking me what I was drawing and when I said it was just a hobby, the unexpected reply was "Well, I wouldn't say it's just a hobby!" 😊 On Saturday I wore something about Star Wars (mostly the Mandalorian and Grogu stuff) and Sunday was a mix of everything. Until next year! 👋

Yes, it's time for Throwback Thursday again and I decided to make a collage of all my anime related drawings. But... Surprisingly enough, there weren't as many digital drawings as I was hoping, because in the beginning I did many pencil, lineart or polymer clay stuff etc., which I obviously couldn't put in this digital mashup. 😐

Anyway, these characters you see here are from only a few anime shows I've been watching, and some very important ones are still missing. I need to change it ASAP.

Forever Young

This "Throwback Thursday" is for my digital drawing from 2017, just perfect for my upcoming birthday. I called it Peter Pan Syndrome/Generation and wrote about staying a kid in heart. I'm not sure if I used the term correctly back then, but it's more like being unapologetically myself, at least when it comes to my hobbies and habits, especially because of new technologies and opportunities I didn't have when I was younger.

I didn't just repost my old drawing, I changed it a bit. The lines were crunchy and pixelated, which was the style I preferred at the time, the proportions were off etc, so there was place for improvement. And I added a part of my art collage in the background to show that no matter what I'm supposed to do with the burden of all these decades on my shoulders, I'm not giving up drawing and supporting the geeky pop culture.

Fun (or disturbing?) fact: when someone asks me how old I am, sometimes I ask back: You mean "old" old or "in my head" old? 😄

Alien Day 2026

Happy Alien Day!

It's celebrated today because it represents LV-426, the name of the moon where the xenomorphs were first discovered. And yep, it's that weird writing of dates where month comes first, but no matter how confusing it seems, it gave us some interesting dates to celebrate (such as Pi Day on March 14 because it's 3,14 etc), so I guess there's some practical use for it after all. 🤷‍♂️

The drawing isn't completely new. I mean, it kind of is, but the xeno and the egg with a facehugger are actually from my last Halloween collage. I just never posted them as a seperate drawing, so this seemed like a perfect opportunity.

Scarlet Witch & Dr Strange

This week's Throwback Thursday is reserved for two drawings put together: Dr Strange from 2016 and Scarlet Witch from 2019, accompanied by a magic spell ring from 2022!

I had to adjust them a little bit, as Stephen was drawn in Paint Shop Pro, Wanda in Photoshop and the magic ring by hand, using spirograph, then scanned and finished in Clip Studio Paint.

It was an interesting project, as my drawing style and habits have changed over the years. But these TBTs help me revisit older drawings, tweak them if necessary and reintroduce them to new followers. It's been 10 years since I started this digital journey and there are way too many drawings that have most likely been forgotten along the way.

"For 20 years one small team at Marvel Studios did the most important job in the entire MCU. You just never knew their names. 

They were the Visual Development team. 13 artists. Comic book obsessives. The people who looked at a script, or sometimes no script at all, and drew what Iron Man's armor should feel like. What Loki should look like when he walks into a room. What the Avengers should look like standing together for the first time. 

Every iconic frame of the MCU started as a sketch on one of their desks. Ryan Meinerding ran the team. He has been there since the first Iron Man movie in 2008. 

This Tuesday Disney's new CEO sent an email. 1,000 layoffs across the company. Marvel got hit with roughly 8 percent. And the Visual Development team was almost entirely wiped out. 

One artist named Wesley Burt posted about the moment he got let go. He said the meeting happened in a conference room that still had his own Loki mural painted on the wall. 

Former team member Michael Uwandi went on the record with Polygon. He said the team's value was that they understood the comics on a level outsiders never could. He said losing them means the MCU is about to lose its house style. 

Another anonymous source said the quiet part out loud. Other Marvel departments were already using AI in their work. Costume design. Art departments. He said he would not be surprised if that was part of the decision. Disney is replacing the team with freelancers hired per project. No in-house artists. No shared language. No continuity. Avengers: Doomsday starts production without them. Spider-Man: Brand New Day starts production without them. 20 years of loyalty. One email. The artists who built Marvel are gone. And the fans are the ones who will feel it next."
