Hooligfan(s) 2025

 I'm not sure if you remember, but Hooligfan is one of the villains from my Grdiverse project. I created him about two years ago and this is his redesign, but in Chibi style. His power is multiplication, hence all the duplicates attacking our hero in this illustration.

If it's not obvious, I was inspired by the so-called "culture" surrounding football/soccer, spiced up with money, manipulated nationalism and raging hooliganism. And no, this isn't against sport and everything good it provides; it's about every weak minded fool who puts on a black hoodie and thinks their mistaken ways mean progress and change. And they've been rapidly multiplying in real life, too. 😞

In my drawing, my superhero Davorachnid is trying to fight them, no matter how outnumbered he is. And in real life... well, it's more depressing, because it looks like they're allowed to do whatever they want and their actions evidently meet with conservative politicians' approval. And not just in my country. 🤷‍♂️

So, my original design included a baseball hat and a buff (a face cover), but this time I changed it to a mask similar to Deadpool's, but with soccer ball patterns (pentagons) to match the whole theme. But don't let the mask fool you, it's just a detail, because he's a typical villain. OK, more like brainwashed by his evil bosses and false convictions, just like his real life counterparts.

National Cookie Day

 

Happy National Cookie Day (Dec 4)! As you can see, this post is just a filler until I finish my next drawing. So... let's talk about cookies.

A locally famous brand of cookies, Moto, may not be the best there is, but in my opinion it's definitely better than Oreo. There are also other much better cookies, such as Domaćica, Napolitanke or Jadro, but let's use Moto for this comparison, as it's visually the most similar to Oreo. They both are round cookies with two parts and a filing in between.

And yet, everything's been all about Oreos for a quite some time. They keep coming up with new flavours, combining them with Milka chocolate or ice cream, baking Oreo cake for various celebrations... Ugh... it's not even that tasty! I believe they use a different type of cocoa or something like that. And they're so sweet that they make my teeth hurt, which is ironic coming from someone who has a sweet tooth and is ready to eat anything, just add sugar to it.

Moto both tastes and looks better. It's shaped like a flower, one of its parts is darker because it has cocoa in it, the other one doesn't, it's lighter and has a hole in the middle, and the filling is made of tasty chocolate cream. They've got some new versions and flavours lately, but all in all, it's not that widely known and as far as I know, there's no recipe for a Moto cake.

Anyway, my decision  is not based (solely) on nostalgia, I really believe Moto is a much better choice than the worldwide more famous Oreo.

Wei Wuxian Cosplay

This month's art challenge DTPYS by @theposearchives provided a great opportunity for me to draw a fanart piece of my friend's cosplay - @nariel_of_imladris as Wei Wuxian!

I don't really know this character (apparently he's from a Chinese fantasy drama The Untamed), but I really like the looks and the colours and the way Nariel interprets him through her style. My drawing isn't the exact copy of her costume, but rather a combination of more versions. I also wasn't sure what to draw as the background, so I found inspiration online and recreated it using Clip Studio Paint brushes.

As for the art challenge, the model was supposed to be carrying a sword, but Wei Wuxian's flute "Chenquing" (a spiritual instrument used to control his use of demonic energy) turned out to be an interesting substitution that perfectly completed the challenge pose.

Hope yoy like it as much as I do. Drawing this was an unexpected blast! 🎨

Doctor Who Day (Fall 2025)

 Happy Doctor Who Day! On 23rd November, 1963, the very first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast on BBC, so now this date is celebrated among fans.

It turns out I was a fan before I knew it, because I remember watching an interesting sci-fi show in the 80s about a man with curly hair and a long scarf, fighting robots and robotic... rats? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, only in 2005, during the Doctor Who revival, did I realize it was actually that show, with the fourth Doctor Tom Baker fighting Cybermen and Cybermats in the 1975 episode "Revenge of the Cybermen". 👍

So, I decided to post something on this day, but I didn't draw anything new. Instead of that, I redesigned an old drawing from 2018 (OK, maybe the face and some other features). It was part of some kind of a fall art challenge and apparently I drew myself wearing the Doctor Who scarf (which I still have!), so I guess that should be enough to celebrate this day. Unlimitwins (Grdiverse)

The next good guys or superheroes and Davorachnid's friends in my Grdiverse project are siblings Ryan and Aryn, called Unlimitwins, who share a similar superpower - sound manipulation. While Aryn can use her voice to turn vibrations into a powerful force, Ryan can amplify any sound into the same force, from simply snapping his fingers to hitting his metallic batons during a fight.

I found my inspiration in one of my favourite bands from the techno/dance or Eurodance era, "2 Unlimited" from Belgium. They had many hits in the 90s, so you may have heard their techno anthem "No Limit", which was number one on the UK Singles Chart for several weeks in 1993, or "Get Ready For This", which is often played even today during sport matches (especially basketball), as well as in sport-related movies.

2 Unlimited performs even today, but with a different act: Ray is still here, but Anita isn't, so other vocalists take her place (for the time being it's Michèle). Although they've had many memorable costumes during their career, I chose the latest one for my drawing because of the cool colour palette. And the poses are from @posearchives again, because they remind me of the characteristics I'd like my OCs to have: Anita was definitely The Voice, and Ray had similar dance moves like fighting.

Evil Queen

Apparently, Disney has decided to limit appearance of villains in its parks and make them seasonal characters, which has started some interesting fan theories. One of them is about an employee, an actress whose remarkable performance as the Evil Queen made her fans' favourite and a star of social media. In short, it seems like she played her role a little too well.

Although this role made her famous, she's also played Maleficent, Agatha Harkness and Cinderella's stepmother, which isn't unusual because most of the cast members play different roles. But she was so unforgettable that it didn't take long for fans to find out her real name and her private TikTok account.

What makes her stand out in her roles - especially as the Evil Queen - is the way she easily adapts to her characters,  she's witty and replies quickly. She's great with children and also knows how to approach children with disabilities - all of that while staying in the character! Many people wanted to visit the parks she was performing at and look just for her.

But there are also some downsides, such as people feeling offended by some things she says (although I wouldn't say she oversteps the boundaries of her role) or the constant comparison with the role Gal Gadot played in the Snow White movie that flopped, saying she should've been in the movie or maybe get a raise for her work in Disney parks. I guess all that publicity made her appear too often on the Disney's "naughty list". As I'm writing this, it's not certain what her status is right now - some say she even got fired.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy her witty replies and one-liners such as "Cut!", "Peasant!", "Well... they lied!", "La bruja! La reina, ay!" etc. or join online petitions to reinstall her as the Evil Queen. BTW, I came across her social media accounts too, but I won't be sharing them. If only a part of this is true, it's a shame she's being punished for doing her job too well.

Halloween 2025

Happy Halloween! 🎃

As you can see, my Halloween illustration from 2019 keeps getting more and more crowded! Little by little, I've been adding new characters to my original drawing. There's no real plan, just my curiosity to see what I can do next with this idea.

At that time, I was inspired by Josiah 'Jazza' Brooks's art challenge called "After The Horror". The theme was to draw what famous monsters and villains do when the cameras turn off. My idea was to show Freddy, Michael and Jason waiting for a phone call about possible new sequels of their horror franchises.

And then I started adding more and more horror legends so it became my own challenge to continue updating it from Halloween to Halloween. The latest additions are Billy the puppet (Saw), Samara (The Ring) and a xenomorph with an egg and a facehugger (Alien).

Evil Bosses 2025

Happy National Boss's Day (Oct 16)! I guess even villain masterminds can have their day, so here are three evil bosses from my Grdiverse project, the so-called RIT team.

Expeditor, or simply "Boss", is the oldest. Legend says that he started off as a human but was eventually transformed into a slug-like creature. He's intelligent and has significant connections in both the government and the criminal underground. He represents the letter "I" (for "indulgence") in the RIT team. I found the inspiration in Jabba The Hutt from Star Wars.

Litterer, a.k.a. Tox, puts the letter "T" in the name of the RIT team (for "toxicity"). He carries some kind of a machine on his back that mixes different kinds of waste into a toxic liquid, and he uses it in his fights against superheroes. He's stubborn, toxic and quick-tempered, difficult to have a conversation with. He might not seem to be the boss material, but he's the force to be reckoned with nevertheless. He's partly based on Bane from DC Comics.

Dr Anemonica, or shorter "Mona", is the youngest but the fiercest among them. She's very ambitious, extremely intelligent, success-driven, and ruthless on her way up the crime ladder (she puts "R" in RIT for "ruthlessness"). I found inspiration in Olivia Octavius or Doc Ock from the Spider-Verse, but also in evil Queen Vanda from Sport Billy, one of my favourite childhood cartoons. 

And there's their devoted helper with his own powers, Aresmo, one of Mona's experiments. He's actually a manifestation of souls of her loyal subjects who she used to create this ghostly entity. Even in the form of a ghost leprechaun, they try to help her with her evil plans.

Davorachnid Summer 2025

I haven't drawn any interaction between Davorachnid and the Grdiverse villains so far, so this is the closest to their fight you can get for the time being. And by "fight" I mean him swinging away from the danger. 🤣

This version of Davorachnid is my latest drawing, but Dr Anemonica and Aresmo are from 2023. I haven't drawn any new poses of these two, I just keep recycling the original drawing. I believe it's the third time in two years. 🤔 Well... this should change, maybe even next week. Stay tuned!

In this illustration, Davorachnid is wearing a T-shirt and shorts because I still can't let go of the summer, and it seemed a good idea to draw a summer variation of his usual costume.

National Hair Day 2025

 Celebrating the National Hair Day, Oct 1! And not without the reason - although I have no hairdressing skills whatsoever, I've been cutting my own hair since 2011!

Two main "ingredients" for this success were YouTube videos and curiosity if I could actually do it, so the rest is history. Somehow I managed to master the double mirror technique (a wall mirror and a hand held mirror), "contorting" my way around my head and gradually getting a hang of it throughout the years. I don't use just hair clippers, but also scissors, and something that has started as a hit-or-miss adventure, eventually became quite a professional process. Plus, it's economical, which has become a very important factor nowadays.

This illustration is an example of a haircut I had this summer. I was very proud of it and I got a lot of praise for that style, but it was also a high maintenance because I was sweating a lot, it often lost its form and I would end up looking like a wet rat. At the moment, I'm sporting a crew cut with a moustache.

As for the laws of physics, don't take this drawing too seriously or analyse it too much. I had to think of foreshortening, angles and reflections, and it may have turned out a little bit messy. Just like the mess I leave after cutting my hair. 🤣

Pokémon Summer 2025

Although the summer's over, I owe you this year's Pokémon summer adventure featuring Umberto, Espina and their two pet Pokémon.

It's getting harder to think of new situations, so here's a simple one, the four of them relaxing in the sea and holding on to a surfboard.

As usual, Espeon looks happy and lovely, while Umbreon looks irritated and angry, I just love drawing them that way. I believe it adds a comical tone to my summer Pokémon illustrations. ☺️

Area 51 (2025)

Good old times, when things were a little bit simpler... or it just felt like that! "Storm Area 51" was an unusual event that took place on September 20, 2019. The idea was to gather people who'd raid the famous military base in the Nevada desert and find out the truth about aliens, but in reality it ended as a music festival and an Internet meme.

One of the jokes was to help aliens escape Area 51, so I started my little art challenge where my avatar saves a different alien each time, mostly recognizable creatures from pop culture. So far I've "saved" a common green alien, a baby xenomorph and a facehugger and my favourite childhood alien Alf.

This year it's time for another creature from the Alien franchise, T. Ocellus from the show Alien: Earth. It's become more popular than the xenomorph itself, something like Baby Groot or Baby Yoda (Grogu). So, here are the two of us, lost in the Nevada desert, both looking for the way to escape. But I'm keeping T.O. in its container for the moment - just in case, because I'm not sure how much I can trust that lovely alien parasite.

Ironheart 2025

Ironheart suit Mark V, the one Riri Williams eventually builds on the Disney+ show.

I used a pose from a cover of one of her comics for my reference, The Iron Generations vol.1 (I'm not sure who the artist is).

The suit isn't 100% accurate because I couldn't find the full armour reference, so I made several screenshots from the show and worked with what I had.

My Summer 2025

 For me, summer represents a long awaited time to unwind after a stressful job and concentrate on my own needs, recuperation and relaxation, and to get ready for any new challenges that the rest of the year may bring.

I don't take "proper" vacations anymore, I don't travel much - I usually stay home, but I force myself to do as much as I can locally: biking, working on losing weight, sunbathing (and consequently getting sunburnt) and swimming in the nearby river, visit open air festivals and catch up with some people I rarely see during the year.

It's kind of a hopeful time for me, and it feels right while it lasts, but unfortunately it rarely turns into that expected opportunity to change the things I set to work on before the summer came. When it's over, my willingness to change my life fades away, too. It's like I'm always waiting for the next summer, and the next, and the next, although each fails to fulfil its purpose eventually.

But, hey, it's summer right now and for a while nothing else matters.

Young Avengers (Wiccan and Hulkling)

Happy 20th Anniversary of the Young Avengers, represented here by two young but already iconic superheroes, Wiccan and Hulkling. Wiccan/Billy made his MCU debut this year in Agatha All Along, as well as his brother Tommy (although just for a few seconds), but as I wrote two weeks ago I hope they'll reunite in Vision Quest. I guess it's still too early for Hulkling/Teddy, but somehow it seems we won't have to wait too long. 😉

Roger and Jessica Rabbit

It's always been hard for me to fully participate in monthly art challenges (Inktober, Creatuanary, MerMay etc., or in this case #toonjune), because there are million other obligations and I fail to commit to following official prompts day-to-day, so I've decided to make one illustration instead of a 30-day challenge. 🤷‍♂️

For this special toon fanart occasion I chose Roger and Jessica Rabbit... drinking lemonade on a beach. It's summer, so why not? I'm not sure why I chose them, but maybe the sudden overload of Who Framed Roger Rabbit content on my feed had something to do with that. BTW, I need to rewatch the movie, it's been too long.

Drawfee Colour Palette

Now that I have a little bit more time, I've been trying to keep up with @drawfeeshow videos, so I was inspired again - this time by their colour palette challenge (aired on April 3). Drawfee Characters

Here's my fan art of original characters that sometimes appear in @drawfeeshow videos, voiced by the Drawfee gang and their guests. They drew three of them in a video posted on May 22 titled "Drawing Classic Drawfee Characters (That We've Never Drawn Before)". Global Running Day 2025

Starter Pack

I know I'm late for the Starter Pack trend, but I had to participate and support my fellow artists who fight against AI in art. Instead of using AI like others, they created their "starter packs" using their own artistic skills, so this is my try. I believe AI could be helpful in many other areas, just leave art alone. 😡

I consider myself a self-taught digital artist, and I've been using Clip Studio Paint for several years now to create illustrations of everything that seems interesting, from superheroes and other pop culture references to personal projects.

As for my looks in this drawing, I usually have a beard, but I often change my style and appearance (at the moment I'm letting my hair grow and I have a moustache). I often wear hats and clip-on sunglasses. I rarely leave the house without a bag because there are too many essentials and not enough pockets. 😄

As you can also see in this drawing, I often carry a drawing tablet, a sketchbook, and an MP3 player with standard wired earphones (not that novelty wireless earbuds) - not just to save my phone's battery life, but also because of nostalgia. ☺️ I don't believe that everything that's momentarily trending should be used just because it's available - and as I already said, that also includes AI, especially in art where it definitely doesn't belong. And please, let's replace the term "AI artist" with "AI manipulator." It's more accurate. 😉

Eurovision 2025

The highlight of Eurovision 2025: Baby Lasagna (@the_baby_lasagna_, Croatia) and Käärijä (@paidatonriehuja, Finland) performing the mashup of their songs "Rim Tim Tagi Dim" (ESC 2024) and "Cha Cha Cha" (ESC 2023) and their new song "#eurodab".

I started to draw them the moment I found out about their music collaboration, using what I call my "raid area 51 style" and referencing their original costumes, so when they turned up on the stage on Saturday wearing the new ones, the main part of my drawing was finished and I didn't have much time to change anything. 🤷‍♂️ But I hope you like it, as well as this drawing style.

SFeraKon 2025

Once again I celebrated my birthday weekend at SFeraKon, a famous Croatian sci-fi and fantasy convention (just a year younger than me!). It might seem a strange opportunity for a birthday celebration, but it's my favourite geeky highlight of the year.

Thunderbolts (Old costumes)

 Here's my digital art collage for the Thunderbolts movie. I didn't plan to draw anything because I'm busy with some other projects, but I already had some characters from previous movies, hence the "old" costumes (and also slight differences in drawing style). Ghost and Taskmasker were already good to go, and Bucky, Yelena and John needed a bit of a redesign, so I only had to draw Red Guardian and The Void from scratch. I mean, The Void in this form wasn't a challenge at all, but I was happy to use anything I could because of lack of time.

Tales from the Loop

Here are my two favourite characters from Tales from the Loop, a 2020 Amazon Prime show. Such a great adaptation of one of Simon Stålenhag's books - and so much better than Netflix's adaptation of another of his books, The Electric State, which came out a few weeks ago (it's too bad they went with some kind of an action adventure because it would've been epic if it'd been closer to the original like Tales from the Loop).

Anyway, don't miss this show and let's hope they decide to film Things from the Flood in the same style next.

Quickscanner 2025

Here's my OC Quickscanner, one of the first entries in my rogues' gallery for my Grdiverse project. I was inspired by everyday situations, in this case by overzealous cashiers who became hilarious Internet memes because of the way they would handle products while you're desperately trying to put them in your shopping bag. And now, two years later, I decided to redraw and redesign this character.

Maybe it's not directly related to the issue, but one of the reasons behind this idea was the yesterday's shopping boycott in Croatia because of abnormally high prices. It was actually the fourth boycott (it had been decided to be every week on Friday), but it also turned out to be the last one. 🤔 Everything started very promising a month ago, for a moment it looked like we're finally standing up for our rights, but during that period it became obvious that more and more people decided to give up and yesterday was the weakest response ever. 😞 And as it was supposed to be the first "economic blackout" in the USA and some other countries too, our failure seemed even more disappointing. But that's us... nothing new. 🤷‍♂️ Apparently, we couldn't give up our habits so eventually not much has changed. The prices didn't go down and I bet this whole "inconvenience" will soon be forgotten.

Now, I know cashiers aren't responsible for all that and they're just doing their job, but this character was the closest to anything related to commerce, shopping etc. and an opportunity to redraw and maybe redesign my OC. As some of you may know, she's a speedster who can throw items at incredible speed so as you can see, she can also weaponize loyalty and gift cards and use them against our superheroes. It's something like The Flash meets Gambit, but a villain.
