National Hair Day 2025

 Celebrating the National Hair Day, Oct 1! And not without the reason - although I have no hairdressing skills whatsoever, I've been cutting my own hair since 2011!

Two main "ingredients" for this success were YouTube videos and curiosity if I could actually do it, so the rest is history. Somehow I managed to master the double mirror technique (a wall mirror and a hand held mirror), "contorting" my way around my head and gradually getting a hang of it throughout the years. I don't use just hair clippers, but also scissors, and something that has started as a hit-or-miss adventure, eventually became quite a professional process. Plus, it's economical, which has become a very important factor nowadays.

This illustration is an example of a haircut I had this summer. I was very proud of it and I got a lot of praise for that style, but it was also a high maintenance because I was sweating a lot, it often lost its form and I would end up looking like a wet rat. At the moment, I'm sporting a crew cut with a moustache.

As for the laws of physics, don't take this drawing too seriously or analyse it too much. I had to think of foreshortening, angles and reflections, and it may have turned out a little bit messy. Just like the mess I leave after cutting my hair. 🤣

Pokémon Summer 2025

Although the summer's over, I owe you this year's Pokémon summer adventure featuring Umberto, Espina and their two pet Pokémon.

It's getting harder to think of new situations, so here's a simple one, the four of them relaxing in the sea and holding on to a surfboard.

As usual, Espeon looks happy and lovely, while Umbreon looks irritated and angry, I just love drawing them that way. I believe it adds a comical tone to my summer Pokémon illustrations. ☺️

Area 51 (2025)

Good old times, when things were a little bit simpler... or it just felt like that! "Storm Area 51" was an unusual event that took place on September 20, 2019. The idea was to gather people who'd raid the famous military base in the Nevada desert and find out the truth about aliens, but in reality it ended as a music festival and an Internet meme.

One of the jokes was to help aliens escape Area 51, so I started my little art challenge where my avatar saves a different alien each time, mostly recognizable creatures from pop culture. So far I've "saved" a common green alien, a baby xenomorph and a facehugger and my favourite childhood alien Alf.

This year it's time for another creature from the Alien franchise, T. Ocellus from the show Alien: Earth. It's become more popular than the xenomorph itself, something like Baby Groot or Baby Yoda (Grogu). So, here are the two of us, lost in the Nevada desert, both looking for the way to escape. But I'm keeping T.O. in its container for the moment - just in case, because I'm not sure how much I can trust that lovely alien parasite.

Ironheart 2025

Ironheart suit Mark V, the one Riri Williams eventually builds on the Disney+ show.

I used a pose from a cover of one of her comics for my reference, The Iron Generations vol.1 (I'm not sure who the artist is).

The suit isn't 100% accurate because I couldn't find the full armour reference, so I made several screenshots from the show and worked with what I had.

My Summer 2025

 For me, summer represents a long awaited time to unwind after a stressful job and concentrate on my own needs, recuperation and relaxation, and to get ready for any new challenges that the rest of the year may bring.

I don't take "proper" vacations anymore, I don't travel much - I usually stay home, but I force myself to do as much as I can locally: biking, working on losing weight, sunbathing (and consequently getting sunburnt) and swimming in the nearby river, visit open air festivals and catch up with some people I rarely see during the year.

It's kind of a hopeful time for me, and it feels right while it lasts, but unfortunately it rarely turns into that expected opportunity to change the things I set to work on before the summer came. When it's over, my willingness to change my life fades away, too. It's like I'm always waiting for the next summer, and the next, and the next, although each fails to fulfil its purpose eventually.

But, hey, it's summer right now and for a while nothing else matters.
